As the Head Prefect, I have had the opportunity to lead the Prefect EXCO and organise a variety of school events and activities. It brings me great satisfaction to contribute to making our school  a better place for everyone.

1. Secured $2000 Sponsorship for Ice Cream Day         -  28 May 2025

Last year, when I was campaigning for Head Prefect in my school,  I proposed to have an Ice Cream Day at the end of each school term to celebrate the end of Weighted Assessments. I wanted to do something fun for all the students and to reward them for studying hard.

Earlier this year, I worked hard to make that idea come true. I managed to get a partial sponsorship of 2000 cups of Magnolia ice cream from a distributor called Chip Guan Heng, and also received cash sponsorship from Paya Lebar Methodist Church to pay for the balance. AlI in, I managed to secure $2000 worth of ice cream for my school. The ice cream was for all our 2000 students, teachers, security officers, canteen hawkers and cleaners.

I also wrote to other companies like Nestle, Walls, Milo, Ben & Jerry's and Udders, and even to banks like OCBC and DBS, but they either rejected outright or did not reply. Still, I did not give up and finally, I found my sponsors. I also had to follow up with the various parties closely and coordinate for payment and delivery of the ice cream.

My school principal and teachers were very pleased with my efforts and how I persevered to make this event happened. The PL Ice Cream Day was held on 28 May 2025 as a surprise for everyone, just before the June school holidays. All the students and teachers were  delighted to eat the ice cream together!

2. Hosting the Minister of Education - February 2025

On 6 February 2025, the Minister of Education, Mr Chan Chun Sing, visited my school. I was honoured to be chosen by my teachers to lead a team of eight prefects to host him during his visit.

Together, we planned everything carefully - from the places he would visit in the school to the fun activities he could do with the students.

I was the first person to welcome him when he arrived in the morning. Mr Chan was very friendly and easy to talk to. He even shared some funny stories from when he was a student! I asked him if being a minister was a difficult job, and he said he enjoyed his job so much that it didn't feel hard at all. That really inspired me.

At the end of the visit, my principal was very pleased with how I led the team and represented the school.

3. Hosting P6 Graduation Ceremony

    - November 2024

As the Head Prefect, I had the honour of hosting last year's P6  Graduation Ceremony for our graduating seniors. I worked closely with the Vice Head Prefect to write the script, and together we were the emcees for the event.

We introduced many exciting performances by each P6 class and made sure the audience stayed in high spirits and entertained throughout the ceremony. It was a fun and meaningful event, and many P6 students said it was one of their best memories from their P6 year.

4. Hosting P1 Orientation - November 2024

I was very excited to meet the new Primary 1 girls during the P1 Orientation. It was their first visit to PL with their parents, and I wanted to help them feel welcome.

Together with my teachers and principals, I greeted the new students and their families, shared about our school, and guided them on familiarisation tours around PL. I hope that one day, these new girls will grow to love and be proud of PL, just like I am, and contribute to the school in their own ways.

5. Leading Devotions - Monthly

As a Christian, I enjoy sharing God’s love and His Word with others. I often volunteer to prepare and lead devotions to the entire school, and it's something I look forward to each time. Here are a few slides from the different devotions I’ve presented. Each time, I carefully think about the topic and how to share it in a way that's easy to understand and relatable for my schoolmates so that they can connect with the message.

6. Leading Morning Assemblies - Daily

Every morning, I arrive at school before 7 a.m to prepare for the school assembly. I ensure that the prefects on duty are present and ready to carry out their responsibilities. If any prefects are absent, I have a backup plan to mobilise other prefects or I would step in to cover her duty. During assembly, I usually stand on the school stage to lead the school in singing the National Anthem, reciting the Pledge, and reading out the daily announcements. I also assist in raising the National Flag and School Flag with the help of other prefects. I take great pride in serving my school in this way and starting each day with a sense of respect and responsibility.

7. Organising Prefect Duties and Planning                 Schedule

Before the start of every school semester, I am responsible for assigning prefect duties to the 90 prefects and planning the duty schedule. When doing this, I carefully consider each prefect's skills, experience, and how well they work with others. I take great care in this task because I believe that the experience of carrying out different duties is an important training opportunity for the prefects. This allows them to gain valuable experience as they rotate through various roles. For new prefects, I pair them with more senior prefects to help guide and mentor them. If I notice any prefects are struggling with their duties, I make sure to personally guide them to ensure they learn and improve.

8.  Hosting National Day Parade - 8 August 2025

I was very excited to be an emcee for my school’s combined National Day celebration with Paya Lebar Methodist Girls' (Secondary). I shared this important role with three senior girls from the secondary school. Before the event, we had two rehearsals to run through the programme. During the celebration, I had to announce the Guest-of-Honour and carefully time my lines as I announced the Girls' Brigade and NPCC marching parades. I also read the Recollection of Singapore story, making sure to use the right emotions and tone to make it interesting for everyone. Besides that, I helped to arouse the crowd and bring everyone to a high mood so we could celebrate Singapore’s National Day with joy and pride. It was a great experience that taught me how to be calm and confident in front of a big audience.

9. PL Founders' Day 2025 - 10 Oct 2025

As the head prefect, I had been given the honor of representing my school as the valedictorian to give a speech in front of the whole P6 cohort, secondary school students, and the teachers. Wanting to do my best, I worked hard to make sure I delivered the speech to the best of my ability. We even had 2 rehearsals to make sure everything ran smoothly. On the day of the founder's day morning service, I made sure to deliver my speech with emotion, to make sure that everyone could feel my appreciation to them for being part of my journey. At the end of my speech, everyone shouted my name and clapped for me. I felt happy that I could do my best in one of my final acts of service as a head prefect towards the school. During the founders day dinner, I also had a lot of fun with my friends and teachers and made many precious memories.
